The electron configuration of niobium is [Kr] 5s^1 4d^4. This means that niobium has 41 electrons, with the first 36 being the same as krypton, and the remaining 5 being distributed in the 5s and 4d orbitals. **

Niobium has a ground state electron configuration of [Kr] 4d^4 5s^1. This means that in its ground state, niobium has four unpaired electrons in its 4d orbital, giving it a spin state of S=3/2. This makes niobium a paramagnetic material, meaning it is attracted to a magnetic field. **
